How to Make Coasters with PassionArt Craft Resin

How to Make Coasters with PassionArt Craft Resin with Lynn and Paul Passionart from Northland Resin, Resinzwood, Resin Wood Tables NZ. The Passionart Craft Resin, contrary to other importers that try to obscure our products, is fast becoming the go-to choice of resin artists across New Zealand due to the modifications it has had during the manufacturing process, with the addition of a higher amount of UV additives that make it a step above the other Crekoat products that other resin companies in New Zealand import.

The Passionart Craft Resin was primarily designed as an all-rounder, you could say, suitable for a vast array of resin art concepts, and a very good product for final flood coats on artworks or river tables. Lynn and I use this product to make coasters, and it is our number one go-to for most of our resin art classes around New Zealand.

How to Mix Passionart Craft Resin

You will want to keep your resin at a warm room temperature above 20 °C, but if your resin is cold, boil the⠀ kettle, pour the water into a container,r then add both Part A Resin and Part B Hardener and let them sit there for around fifteen minutes. Just a note here: this will speed up the work time, so to slow things down a bit, only pre-heat the Part A Resin.

  • Preheat your PassionArt Craft resin
  • Calculate the volume you require using the app on our website
  • Add Part B to the mixing container, then add Part A, as this will ensure all of the resin contacts the hardener
  • Now mix for three to four minutes, ensuring to scrape the sides and bottom of the container
  • Make sure the PassionArt Craft resin is streak-free and clear. If not, mix a little longer
  • Ensure your coaster mould is clean and free of any dust
  • Now divide your resin into a few containers if you want to do multiple colours
  • You have so many options now, depending on the type of coaster you are going to craft. For this example, let us say you were doing a floral scene and your coaster is, say, 8mm thick.
  • Pour about one-third of the clear resin into the coaster, then add your dried flowers.
  • Use tweezers to push your flowers down into the resin along with other mediums and wait till the resin is very thick and hard.
  • Now you can add your backing coat of resin. Generally, we like this to be a deep, contrasting colour to achieve the maximum Wow factor.
  • Wait till your coaster is fully cured, twelve to thirty-six hours depending on your room's temperature, before you do the great reveal.

For crafting coasters, this is a very good product that can be used with all of our High Quality, Micas, Metallics, Dyes and inks, allowing you to craft the perfect coasters for friends and Whanau. We even have Custom Starter Kits available for making coasters, as well as other kitsets, to help you be creative with our Deep Pour products.
