Description
Knot Hole Resin – 3kg 2:1 Epoxy Resin for Timber Voids, Cracks & Small Castings
Knot Hole Resin is a versatile two-part epoxy resin designed for filling knot holes, cracks, voids and imperfections in timber. Mixed at a 2:1 ratio by weight, this clear-casting epoxy is ideal for woodworking, resin table repairs, small castings, jewellery, coasters and creative resin projects.
Knot Hole Resin cures to an almost water-clear finish, making it a practical choice when clarity is important. It can also be used as a seal or primer coat before applying a finishing product such as Liquid Glass or Osmo Oil to timber projects.
The formulation has been enhanced with additional UV additives to help it perform in New Zealand conditions, making it suitable for a wide range of woodworking and creative applications.
Ideal for Timber Knot Holes, Cracks & Voids
Knot Hole Resin is particularly suited to filling and stabilising imperfections in timber, including:
- Knot holes
- Cracks
- Voids
- Small timber imperfections
- Woodworking projects
- Resin and timber combinations
- Small castings
For timber applications, the cured resin can be shaped by grinding and sanding before applying your chosen finishing system.
More Than Just a Timber Filler
Although Knot Hole Resin was developed with timber knot holes and voids in mind, its versatility makes it useful for many other applications.
It can be used for:
- Resin coasters
- Coloured resin projects
- Jewellery making
- Creative resin art
- Small castings
- Dirty pour artwork
- Laminating timber
- Laminating fibreglass
- Sealing timber before a finishing coat
- Craft and DIY projects
For jewellery and other suitable small casting applications, Knot Hole Resin can be poured in layers up to approximately 10mm deep, depending on the application and conditions.
2:1 Mixing Ratio by Weight
Knot Hole Resin uses a simple 2:1 mixing ratio by weight.
Accurate weighing and thorough mixing are important for achieving the correct cure and final performance.
Always follow the supplied mixing and application instructions.
Working Time
- Pot life: Approximately 20 minutes
- Working time: 30+ minutes
- Sanding: Can be sanded from approximately 8 hours, depending on temperature and curing conditions
- Full cure: Approximately 24–48 hours, depending on environmental conditions
Allow additional curing time where required by the application, temperature or thickness of the pour.
Pour Depth
Knot Hole Resin can be poured up to approximately 10mm deep per layer for suitable applications.
For deeper timber voids, use appropriate techniques such as layered pours rather than attempting to fill a deep void in one pour.
UV-Enhanced Formula for New Zealand Conditions
Knot Hole Resin has been improved with additional UV additives to help the product perform in New Zealand conditions.
The improved formulation is particularly useful for applications where timber and clear resin will be exposed to light.
While the resin provides improved UV performance, no clear epoxy should be considered completely immune to yellowing from prolonged UV exposure.
Almost Water-Clear Finish
When fully cured, Knot Hole Resin provides an almost water-clear finish, making it suitable for applications where the natural appearance of timber or embedded materials needs to remain visible.
The hardener has a slight yellow tint, so Knot Hole Resin may not be the ideal choice for very deep pours where maximum optical clarity is required.
For deeper or highly clarity-sensitive applications, consider a resin specifically formulated for deep casting.
Finishing Timber Projects
Once your Knot Hole Resin has cured and been shaped, sanded and prepared, the timber project can be finished with suitable products.
For timber applications, Knot Hole Resin can be overcoated with products such as:
- Liquid Glass
- Osmo Oil
Always ensure the cured surface is correctly prepared and compatible with the chosen finishing product before application.

Important Consideration
Knot Hole Resin has a slight yellow tint in the hardener. Although it cures almost water clear, it is not the best choice for very deep pours where absolute optical clarity is required.
For deep casting applications where maximum clarity is essential, consider using a dedicated deep-pour epoxy resin.
